CSR projects

The CSR projects our hearts pound a little extra for

Over the years, our employees have passionately turned the money from The Greencarrier Spirit Fund into several successful and rewarding projects. Here are some examples of what we do in the Greencarrier Group.

Solvatten – It all starts with Safe water

Solvatten is a social enterprise making portable solar powered jerry cans for heating and treating water. By working together in partnership with governments, local organisations and corporations, Solvatten aims to better the lives of millions of people living off-grid. Greencarrier and Solvatten collaborate to give long lasting help to especially women and children without clean water.

PortBin – For cleaner oceans

Every minute around 15 tons of plastic end up in the ocean, polluting the environment and endangering wild life. PortBin is a floating trashbin that collects plastic from the ocean surface in ports and can be emptied easily. Greencarrier Freight Services in Norway operates port logistics in four major Norwegian cities: Moss, Larvik, Kristiansand and Bergen. The ambition is to install a PortBin in each of these ports in addition to other ports along Norways coast in the future. Our customers support us in this initiative by paying a Green Contribution, which is a small fee added to the invoice. This collaboration will contribute to a cleaner ocean, as an example, tests in Bergen shows that they estimate to collect about 150-200 kilos of plastic waste each year – and since plastic does not weigh a lot, that is a lot of plastic! Our ambition is to develop the concept and continue to find projects to help save the environment.

Funding heart surgeries of poor children in China to give them a future

In Shanghai, China, we support Heart-to-Heart, which is an organisation that helps fund heart surgeries for children who come from very poor families. Many families in rural China are not fully covered by medical benefits and are unable to raise the money for the operation for their child. So far we have helped four children with their surgeries. This is very important to us as the future of these children highly rely on financial resources.

Göteborgs Räddningsmission – Support to homeless in Gothenburg, Sweden

In Sweden, Gothenburg, we contribute to The Rescue Mission of Gothenburg’s work for the homeless by paying part of a field worker’s salary. We also take part in their network meetings. For several years, Greencarrier staff has collected Christmas gifts for people in need, and in 2014 staff also helped sell gingerbread houses at the Christmas Fair Liseberg, in support of their work with the homeless in Gothenburg. Everyone has the right to a dignified life, and by supporting the homeless we may help them avoid situations which lead to aggravating the vulnerability of people, like abuse of alcohol and other substance abuses.

Future Transports – Swedish students innovate future transports

The Future Transport project is initiated by Universeum and carried out each year in collaboration with a number of partners. It is held in Gothenburg, Sweden, and gives students in grade 7 and 8 a chance to be inspired by nature to find new and sustainable ways to move and transport goods. We have been involved in this project as one of several partners from business and academy and have contributed as jury members, experts and exhibitors on the Future Day.

Beach cleaning to minimise the environmental impact of marine pollution

Marine pollution is one of the most serious threats to our oceans. In June 2015, Greencarrier in Gothenburg organised Greencarrier Clean-Up collecting and sorting litter from the beach in Billdal. By doing this, we hope to bring up some thoughts and reflections about how we all can make small changes in our lives towards a large positive change, and perhaps also influence others to reduce the amount of trash through shared grass root efforts.

Supporting children in Latvia to stay away from the streets and instead play football

The Football School Metta has a special philosophy of teaching not only the game, but also discipline and attitude for life. Together with Metta, Greencarrier in Latvia has created a fund to support children in families that want their children to play football, but cannot afford to let them. By doing this, we hope to help these children stay away from the streets and instead have fun playing football together with other children.

Cleaning the beaches together on Po Toi Island

Together with the Swedish Chamber of commerce in Hong Kong we organised a beach cleaning day. We gathered our office staff, customers, friends and others and spent the entire day cleaning the beaches. It was a great opportunity to do something locally in our own community, especially because Hong Kong has a high environmental awareness. The project corresponds well to the Greencarrier Spirit, which focuses on the environment, involving ourselves in projects (not only making donations), connecting to the local countries where we’re present and working with business related issues, including long term commitments

Shipment of shoes to the Sherpas to take responsibility for the world we live in

In collaboration with our customer Haglöfs, a supplier of outdoor equipment, we sponsor shipments to Kathmandu in Nepal to supply the Sherpas with shoes. The Sherpas help visitors reach their destination climbing the mountains, taking the lead and carrying all the equipment. Their working conditions are really tough and proper footwear is a fundamental thing in that environment. By helping the Sherpas, we do not only transport goods, but take responsibility for the world we live in.

Volunteering and economical support to help victims in disaster areas

When catastrophes appear around the world, we donate money to the Red Cross and their work to help the victims in these disaster areas. For example, in 2013, we donated money to help the victims in the typhoon catastrophe in the Philippines where thousands of people lost their lives and even more lost their homes. Staff in Helsinki also volunteered to raise money. Another example is when we in 2014 supported with money for food parcels to families in Syria. Volunteering and giving economical support is one way for us to show that we are not only citizens of society, but of the world. Together we take a global corporate responsibility.
